The Strasberg Family

In 2009 I co- founded Humble Design, a non-profit organization that assist families in need who are exiting out of homeless shelters by providing furnishings and design services to their new place of residence. We use donated furniture and in kind goods to turn their bare rooms into a clean and fully decorated home. Many of our clients leave the shelter with just the clothes on their back and do not have the means to furnish their new space. That’s where Humble Design steps in and makes their house a livable, comfortable home.

I have learned how to be humble every day and teach my kids the same. I will occasionally take them to see where their bed went, or where their teddy bear lives now. It is touching, and I feel very important in their development and in mine.

Since 2009, we have strived to make an impact on Detroit homeless families in need and have furnished over 465 families homes. Our goal in 2015 is to service another 156. Our statistics reveal that after we have provided furnishings, there is only a 2% return to the shelters. It’s because we bring back the hope and dignity to the family and provide a new start for their future. Many past clients have continued to thank us for giving them a new beginning to their life.
