The African Library Project is a non-profit that matches book drive
organizers in the United States with rural communities in Africa in
order to build libraries in villages that have no books. The impact of
providing a library to thousands of children and adults in these
communities is tremendous, because learning to read can truly change
their lives. Our current partners include Lesotho, Botswana, Malawi,
Swaziland, Ghana and South Africa. Meghan emailed African Library
Project in November, 2014 enthused about starting a book drive in her
community to provide books for a library in Africa. She was matched
with Leklebi-Fiafe School in Ghana. Meghan along with her friends: Anna
Sun, Elle Catalano and Ruhi Nayak did an awesome job with the book
drive early last year.Through their hard work and dedication, by April
2015, they have collected over 834 donated books and total of 9 boxes
have been shipped out for the community library which will be built in
Ghana. They were also able to collect enough funds through bake sales to
pay for shipping the books to our warehouse and then as part of a
container to Ghana. In total, the girls were able to invest over 50
hours of service to this enriching project. On November 2, 2015 the
Leklebi-Fiafe School in Ghana wrote an appreciation letter saying the
school has received boxes of books from Meghan. They could stock their
library with the books and they are ready in use by their school kids
and teachers!Congratulations for the hard work Meghan and friends put in
to establishing a successful library in an area of extreme need.
