This year, the Detroit Country Day and Marian women's co-op
hockey team made a pledge to give back to our community. In lieu of
collecting gate admissions, the seniors decided that for all of our home
league games, we would instead collect money which is being donated to
different charities. Each senior gets to pick a charity of their choice
per game. For the first game of the year we donated over $200 to Wish Upon a Teen (Birmingham, MI) as recommended by senior Maddie
Odom and for the next home game over $100 went to St. Jude's Children's
Hospital as requested by senior Kaley Rosczewski. Another charity we
donated to was Operation Homefront to help support families with solders
overseas. Over $600 has been donated to charity from our home game
donation requests. In addition, over our holiday break we donated our
time to Salvation Army as bell ringers. We broke into groups and went
to five separate locations to ring bells. The team turned it into a
competition to see which group could raise the most money. The winning
group was at Hollywood Market Madison Heights with $236.58 in just one
hour. The Country Day/Marian women's hockey team raised a total of
$972.25 for Salvation Army which got matched to $1958.50. The teams has
been really happy to give back to the community and will continue to do
so through the rest of the season.
